Last night's American Idol finale was bitter sweet as we said hello to a new star and goodbye to our old friend Simon. (His wise-cracks and snooty 'tude were the only reasons I watched the show! Lena Horne died

Lena Horne singer/actress and activist died yesterday night at the age of 92.

a little bit about this legendary entertainer

Lena Horne was born Lena Mary Calhoun Horne on June 39th 1917 in Brooklyn, NY.

When Lena Horne was 16 she became a performer at the Cotton Club.

besides singing jazz Lena Horne was also an actress and performed in such movies as The Duke is on Top, Cabin in the sky, Stormy Weather, Death of a Gunslinger and the Wiz

A lot of Lena Horne's acting roles where parts such a singer in a musical number that where easily taken out of the film. Which was something that often happened to her parts when the movie was played in the south.

Lena Horne refused to play stereotypical roles of Black commonly seen in Hollywood during the 30's and 40's such a being a maid.

Besides having her parts often cut in some parts of the country and not taken the common stereotypical roles Lena Horne's acting career was cut short because she was black listed during the McCarthy era due to her leftist views. Which at that time basically meant because she was for African Americans having equal rights.

But that didn't stop someone as talented as Lena Horne who just when back to singing in night clubs and having a long lasting singing career and she also kept acting in Broadway and even starred in her own one women show.

Who's Your Favorite Movie Mom?

Without a doubt, I'd have to say J.C. Wiatt (AKA Diane Keaton in Baby Boom). This was one of my absolute favorite movies growing up. I was five when it came out  (do the math!) and absolutely obsessed. And I still am. Anyway, we all know the story. The ultimate yuppie career-driven city girl unexpectedly becomes the guardian to a baby girl. She has to learn to be a mother and juggle work with family. She experiences hurdles along the way (getting fired!, moving to the country!), and eventually realizes (epiphany!) that motherhood is the best job of all. Love love love this movie! Love Diane Keaton. And that baby is insanely adorable.

Kid Sister

Rapper Kid Sister was born Melisa Young on July 3rd 1980 in Markham, Illinois.




Kid Sister started rapping in October of 2005, when she MC a party held by Flosstradamus, a DJ duo that happens to have her brother J2K is half of. In 2007 she was one of a thousand new artist featured in URB magazine's The Next 1000. She then soon hooked up with Kayne West and fame and riches soon game her way as she dropped her debut album Ultraviolet in 2009...



...Well not really, even though Kid Sis was starting getting lots of good reviews and has worked with some big name people she still had to grind and even works at a baby clothing store to make ends meet as she rocks the stage at night.


Kid Sister is interracial and is part Black, White and Native American.
