A longer wait for Alpha Dog

For those of us waiting with baited breath for the release of Justin Timberlake's film Alpha Dog, the wait might just be a little longer. Jesse James Hollywood, on whose kidnap and murder case the film is based, claims the film will prejudice his upcoming trial for the abduction and murder of a teenager over an alleged drug debt. Lawyers are trying to block the film from being distributed and have asked that the Santa Barbara district attorney's office be removed from the case as result of their cooperation with filmmakers. Jesse James Hollywood went missing in 2000, and production on the movie was complete some time after that, but the film's script had to be rewritten when Hollywood was arrested in Brazil in 2005 after lawyers advised that names be changed.

Posh Spice has teamed up with a writer to launch her own style and beauty guide. That Extra Half an Inch will have tips as well as interviews with designers. "I've been working on this for six months," Victoria Beckham said. "It's been a really hard secret to keep as I've been so excited about the whole project. I'm so glad people will know now, so I can finally talk about it." Will her 'tips' section include plastic surgery, I wonder??

Nicole Richie has also announced book plans, and will be following up her best-selling novel with a book on fashion and beauty. A rep for Richie says the title is yet to be determined.

No reconciliation for Hilary and Chad

Media reports in the U.S. say that despite recent sightings of Chad Lowe and Hilary Swank together, the pair are not reconciling. A source told US Weekly, "They are not getting back together. There seemed to be competition between them," and speculated that the couple spent too much time apart.

Jessica buys film rights

Jessica Simpson has bought the rights to make a movie of the Jackie Collins book Lovers and Players. "Jessica has read the book several times and loves it," an insider says. The heroine of the novel is Liberty, a 19-year-old waitress. "Jessica says the role is perfect for her," the insider added. "She's hoping it will showcase her as a serious actress." Let me get this straight: Jessica Simpson hopes a role as a 19-year-old waitress in a Jackie Collins story will make her look like a serious actress???? Wow.

New face

Model Helena Christensen beat out fellow contenders Eva Longoria and Nicolette Sheridan to become the new spokesmodel for Ultimo lingerie. "I am delighted to be the new face and body of Ultimo and I am really looking forward to the campaign. Ultimo lingerie is great and I am not surprised it is the leading lingerie brand in the UK," she said in reaction to the news. Christensen is taking over from current rep Rachel Hunter.

Tom gives Katie an iPod to keep her quiet

Tom Cruise has reportedly given Katie an iPod to help keep her silent while she gives birth to TomKitten, in accordance with weird Scientology principles. "Tom wants her to listen to music through her earphones so there's no noise in the delivery room," a source told a British newspaper.

Sex and the City and Melrose Place alum Kristin Davis spoke out recently about Hollywood romances. "In the entertainment industry we are somewhat prone to fantasies," she told Stella magazine. "If you're an actor, that's what you have to do, so sometimes you see these very quick unions and break-ups, and some of that is just based on wishing it could be true, almost thinking you're in a movie. As an actor, a part of you has to stay very open and hopeful, and that lends itself to rushing into things."

Meanwhile... A recent report has linked the star with Canadian actor Matthew Perry. The couple were reportedly spotted kissing at an LA restaurant. "He kept his arm around her the entire time and kissed her forehead at one point," a fellow diner told Life & Style magazine.

Paris still working on her album

Oscar winners Three 6 Mafia are recording and producing tracks with Paris Hilton. "We ran into her at a William Morris Agency party and she said she liked our song 'Stay Fly' and asked could we work with her," one of the group's members told a newpaper recently. "We let her listen to a dance track and she really liked it and plans to record it tonight."

Paula gets three more years

Paula Abdul has inked a three-year deal to continue her job as a judge on American Idol. "The contestants truly inspire and amaze me each week," a statement from the singer and choreographer said. "Of course, I also look forward to putting Simon in his place for years to come."
